Breakfast is my most dreaded meal. In the morning I often feel like I have a million things to get done and trying to come up with breakfast ideas when I am not even through a cup of coffee feels… well, impossible. I refuse to buy store bought products which leaves me with minimal brain power, a cupboard full of ingredients, and hungry (impatient) kiddos. I also make it a point to ensure each of our meals is nutritious and fully of health conscience items.
I found that making easily accessible meals was the most important. Mornings didn’t lend time to lengthy and extensive recipes. I also needed options that my kids could (mostly) put together themselves so I could focus on other things like milking, animal chores, homeschooling, and setting up our day.
Yogurt became one of our staples relatively quickly when I realized how easy it was to make it homemade and keep it in stock in our fridge.
Once you have learned how to make homemade yogurt (Simple Homemade Yogurt) – you can begin experimenting with various mix ins. Here is our favorite combination:
- Yogurt
- 1/2 Tablespoon NATIVE Protein Powder
- 1/2 Tablespoon Organic (and/or Homemade) Strawberry Preserves
- Sliced Bananas
- Sliced Strawberries
- Blackberries
- Homemade Granola
Make it fun by laying all the toppings out on the counter and allowing each family member to mix/match their different combinations!
Other Mix In Ideas
