Why raw milk? It could be…germy, right? And there is probably poop in it. I don’t know… it feels risky.

First of all, I am not sure what reels you are watching. But unless I was out scooping up mud pies, I am not sure how I am getting poop in it. Also, I take care to make sure my cows and my environment are clean. Hygiene for our cows is just as important as for ourselves and our kids. (More about cleanliness practices in another post-stay tuned).

So since I have confirmed I do NOT have poop milk. I can look at WHY I choose raw milk. Because until last year, my children were 100% dairy free due to intolerances/allergies. Then I got a milk cow…

BENEFITS OF RAW MILK

Interesting fact: The immune factors that are present in HUMAN milk, are the same in RAW cow milk. But guess what? Once it is pasteurized, those factors are damaged or destroyed- making it difficult or impossible for your body to absorb them. In its raw, natural form these immune factors are fully available and absorbable for your body. You are boosting your immune system every time you choose RAW over store bought.

Studies have found that those who drink RAW milk have a lower rate of asthma, eczema, fevers, respiratory issues, and mood. Can happiness really come from raw milk?!

When we pasteurize milk, we are destroying any potential pathogens. And while this practice has it’s place and is important to consider, it damages the vitamins, minerals and enzymes present in the milk. What is left is difficult for the body to absorb and utilize. In it’s raw state they are readily available to be easily absorbed and used by our bodies. Examples of these vitamins are A, D, B12, & K2.

RAW milk contains Lactobacillus which is a live bacteria important in balancing gut biome. Lactobacillus works to crowd out bad bacteria and create a balanced gut microbiome profile. This is the same bacteria you would find in your common store bought Probiotics. But guess what? These probiotics are not found in store bought milk.

When we drink it RAW, there is no homogenization. That is, when we go to the store, our milk is all one solid color/consistency. However, when we drink it raw we will find the cream separates and settles on the top. Commercial manufacturers want it to be uniform. So they homogenize the milk. This changes the state of the fat droplets in the milk, which changes the reaction of the fat globules in our digestive track. And guess what? It makes it significantly harder to digest. RAW milk? Easily digested.

Even if I didn’t agree with all the health benefits, the FLAVOR alone would be enough to convince me. I have never been able to stomach a glass of store-bought milk. It just seemed so…gross. But RAW milk? You’ll find me drinking glasses of it all day long.

My kids, who have never been able to stomach store-bought milk products, LIVE on RAW milk products. In previous years (when attempting store-bought milk) we had experienced diarrhea, eczema, rashes, stomachaches, rosy cheeks, and vomiting. Since drinking raw? Nothing but happy healthy kiddos.
